When Utah decided to experiment by raising the speed limit to 85 mph on certain stretches of highway and school zones, safety eagles predicted carnage.
They were wrong. The state experienced no increase in accidents along these stretches of road, and naturally far fewer speeding tickets.

Florida Highway Patrol had an intensive traffic enforcement program from Aug 21 through Labor Day in which they issued more than 20,000 speeding tickets.
Interestingly, fatalities went from 36 last year to 10 during the same period this year. Read full story here.

Here’s an interesting case where a speeding ticket is being contested because the driver has proof, via GPS tracking, that he was not travelling the speed he was accused of. The county has spent over $15,000 prosecuting the ticket because of the precedent it might set. Full story here.
